Our Room with a View at Confederation Homestead

Confederation Homestead is an 1860 pioneer log home, which we used to rent out as a vacation spot, for about 12 years. As of 2023, we have moved here permanently. While the original house is now our home and not for rent, we have created a brand new space to rent to guests. We had a large detached garage built, 50 feet from the original house, on a rise overlooking the meadow and forest, the original house with a new addition, and the pond. On the second floor we created a lovely fully appointed and furnished bachelor suite. We are making this space available to rent on a month to month, or month + basis, and no longer as a short-term rental, mainly due to the new municipal regulations. We are aiming this new space at guests such as artists or writers who want a get-away space to work, or for people working in the area for a shorter time and are looking for temporary accommodation, or those who want to get away from the city for an extended time.

Our plan is that this garage and new suite, which are nearing completion, will be where we will be living for several months while the new addition to the main house is done, which we are aiming to be completed by fall 2025. After that point, this new comfy space will be available for others to rent. This space is separate and distinct from the main house and is entirely private with a separate deck off the back of the building. This space is heated and air conditioned by a mini-split heat pump, and there is a separate water heater for this unit. Our house and the garage, including this suite, are protected by an automatic backup generator, should the power go out, which it does occasionally. You will get the use of the entire suite which includes:

  • New electric counter top composting machine
  • dishes, cutlery, pots and pans, some food staples and herbs and spices

  • Bosch apartment-size washer and dryer
  • eco-friendly cleaning products and tools are provided + paper towels and toilet tissue
  • 3 piece bathroom with shower stall and heated ceramic floor
  • storage cupboards for clothing and other items
  • iron and ironing board
  • Propane fireplace
  • one double bed, visually separated by room dividers
  • a desk and chair
  • a couch with a double-size pull out bed, in case you have some guests or children.
  • all linens including sheets, towels and kitchen linens will be provided
  • the back deck includes a table, chairs and small Weber barbeque
  • parking for 1 or 2 vehicles
  • Internet service through Starlink satellite service

Additional weeks can be added to the initial one month at $700/week for 1-3 weeks, before the next month’s rental period. This can include any 4 week period and not necessarily actual calendar months. We intentionally have set this rental rate at a reasonable rate because we want to appeal to people who will love this space and place, but may have financial constraints. We would rather charge a lower rate and have it rented, than charge a higher rate in line with many other market rate units, and not have it rented.
